I still prefer firefox, but that might change. Don't know why, it just seems to work for me better than other browsers. One thing that opera does have that's useful is the ability to duplicate a tab. And I am getting rather fed up of having to restart firefox every day or two to keep memory utilization within bounds on my workstation (or cpu utilization down on the XP box at home).

you have a heck of a problem in there. Are you using the latest version of Firefox ? Most likely something is going on with your firefox process: memory leak !?
Check with libumem all heap allocations and possible corruptions. Check as well how much bytes firefox leaks.
Check as well your plugins.

Yes, that's the latest version (not that it makes any difference, it's been that way with every version of firefox).
And no strange plugins (just the normal flash and java), and no extensions either. The thing just grows.
Peter, that is very strange. You have a RSS segment big as 900MB ... Gee. Do you want to find out whats going on. Can you pls. email me the following commands:
1. pstack `pgrep firefox-bin`
2. pmap -x `pgrep firefox-bin`
For me firefox-bin is using around 60-80MB RSS segment. Have you seen such big figures after days of utilisation ?
